The inaugural 2026-2027 cohort is open to Indigenous and Metis boys at the U15 level. We are accepting 26 students for the first year.

Eligibility is based on several factors, including age, academic standing, a clear background check, and a genuine commitment to both hockey development and academic growth. Students must meet scholastic requirements and demonstrate the character and work ethic the program expects. Families will receive a full eligibility checklist during the application process so there are no surprises.

The estimated program cost per student is between $10,000 and $15,000 per year, which covers housing, meals, academic support, hockey development, and program administration. We actively pursue sponsorship partnerships and grant funding to reduce or offset costs for families, and financial support is assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on a student’s circumstances. Families are encouraged to apply regardless of their financial situation, as funding assistance may be available.

Yes. The Emerge Academy uses Saskatchewan's Flex ED framework, which is fully aligned with provincial curriculum standards. All credits earned are recognized and transferable.

Students return home for all major holiday breaks including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring break. We coordinate safe travel arrangements and maintain regular communication with families throughout the year.

Homesickness is natural and expected. Our house parents, Traditional Knowledge Keeper Wendall Starblanket, and coaching staff are trained to support students through adjustment periods. We encourage regular family communication and work closely with families to ensure every boy feels supported.

We track three core metrics: Academic progression (credit accumulation vs. provincial baseline), Athletic development (testing metrics and pathway advancement), and Leadership/Life Skills (completion of certifications like First Aid, Food Safe). Partners receive a customized annual impact report.

Absolutely. Band council members, families, and community leaders are welcome to visit the Academy. We also host open-house events throughout the year.

Family involvement is encouraged and valued. While students live and train within the program environment, we maintain open communication with families through regular updates, scheduled calls, and family visits where possible. We recognize that strong family connections are a key part of a student’s wellbeing and success.

The Emerge Academy has academic support staff and mentors in place to help students who are facing challenges. If a student is struggling, families are contacted promptly and a plan is developed together. The program is built around the whole student, not just their performance on the ice, and we take that responsibility seriously.

The application process includes submitting academic records, completing a background screening, providing references, and participating in an interview or assessment.
